Direct answer

How do you stake HYPE on Hyperliquid?

Move HYPE from your HyperCore spot balance to your staking balance, choose one or more validators, and delegate. A new delegation is locked for one day. Rewards accrue every minute, are distributed daily and are automatically redelegated. To return HYPE to your spot balance, undelegate it and start the seven-day staking withdrawal.

Updated 16 Oct 2026

Hyperliquid staking is delegated proof of stake. You keep control of your account while assigning HYPE to a validator that helps secure HyperCore. In return, eligible delegations receive variable HYPE rewards. The amount you stake can also place the same trading address in a fee-discount tier.

What do you need before staking HYPE?

You need an account connected to the official Hyperliquid app and HYPE in its HyperCore spot balance. If your HYPE is on HyperEVM, first use the app's transfer flow to move it to HyperCore. If it is held on another exchange or network, check the supported withdrawal route and destination before sending it.

  • Open the official app from a trusted bookmark and confirm the domain before connecting your wallet.
  • Keep enough funds outside staking for any near-term trading, transfers or emergencies; a staking withdrawal is not instant.
  • Review the live validator list, commission and recent status instead of choosing only by name or total stake.
  • Start with an amount you can leave unavailable during the one-day delegation lock and seven-day withdrawal queue.

How do you stake HYPE step by step?

Stake HYPE on Hyperliquid

  1. Check your HyperCore spot balance

Confirm that the HYPE you want to stake appears in the app's spot balance. HYPE held on HyperEVM must be transferred to HyperCore first.

  2. Open the staking page

Use the Staking section in the official Hyperliquid app. Check the connected address before approving any action.

  3. Move HYPE to the staking balance

Transfer the chosen amount from Spot Balance to Staking Balance. The official documentation says this internal transfer is instant.

  4. Choose a validator

Compare validator status, commission, operating record and the amount already delegated. You can split HYPE across more than one validator.

  5. Enter the amount and delegate

Review the validator and amount, then approve the delegation. The delegated amount enters a one-day lock before it can be undelegated.

  6. Verify the position

Return to the staking page and confirm the validator, delegated amount and any lock information shown. Keep your own record of the transaction time.

How should you choose a Hyperliquid validator?

A validator is not just a yield label. Its performance affects whether your delegation earns rewards. Hyperliquid can jail a validator that fails to meet network duties. A jailed validator does not earn rewards for its delegators until it is unjailed, although jailing is not the same as token slashing.

Validator checks to make before delegating
CheckWhy it mattersWhat to look for
Current statusA jailed validator does not earn staking rewardsActive status and no unresolved operating issue
CommissionCommission reduces the rewards passed to delegatorsA clearly displayed rate you understand
Operating recordReliable participation supports consistent reward eligibilityPublic identity, communication and sustained operation
Stake concentrationHeavy concentration can weaken network distributionConsider whether a smaller credible validator fits your risk view
Self-delegationValidators must maintain 10,000 HYPE of self-delegationAvoid a validator shown as undelegate-only

Hyperliquid requires a validator to maintain 10,000 HYPE of self-delegation, locked for one year. A validator below that level enters undelegate-only mode. That condition is a reason to investigate before adding a new delegation, not a reason to rush into an unsigned transaction or an unofficial support channel.

How are Hyperliquid staking rewards calculated?

Hyperliquid does not promise a fixed staking APY. The network's reward rate falls as total HYPE staked rises: official documentation describes it as inversely proportional to the square root of total stake. Rewards come from the future-emissions reserve, accrue every minute, are distributed daily and are automatically delegated again so they compound.

The documentation gives approximately 2.37% per year when 400 million HYPE is staked. That is a reference point for the formula, not a live quote or guaranteed return. Your result can differ because total network stake, validator commission, validator performance and your balance during each reward epoch can change.

A practical way to estimate staking results
InputSimple estimateImportant limit
Delegated HYPEAmount delegated × estimated annual reward rateThe rate changes with total network stake
Validator commissionSubtract the validator's share of rewardsCheck the live commission before delegating
CompoundingDaily rewards add to delegated stakeFuture rewards and HYPE price are not guaranteed
Validator downtimePeriods without eligible rewards reduce the resultA jailed validator earns no rewards for delegators

For example, multiplying 1,000 HYPE by a displayed annual rate gives only a rough starting estimate. You would still need to allow for validator commission and any period in which the validator does not earn rewards. It is clearer to measure the result in HYPE first; converting it to dollars introduces a separate and often larger price assumption.

How do you unstake HYPE, and how long does it take?

Unstaking has two stages. First, undelegate from the validator. You can do this after the one-day delegation lock, and the undelegated HYPE becomes available in your staking balance. Second, transfer that amount from the staking balance to the spot balance. This starts a seven-day withdrawal queue.

Return staked HYPE to the spot balance

  1. Check the delegation lock

If fewer than 24 hours have passed since the delegation, wait until the lock ends before trying again.

  2. Undelegate from the validator

Choose a partial or full amount. After confirmation, the HYPE returns to your staking balance rather than directly to spot.

  3. Start the staking withdrawal

Transfer HYPE from Staking Balance to Spot Balance. Record the expected completion time shown in the app.

  4. Wait for the seven-day queue

The transfer cannot be used in spot or sent elsewhere while it is pending. When the queue finishes, the HYPE appears in your spot balance.

Each address can have no more than five pending staking withdrawals. If you regularly release small amounts, combine requests where practical so you do not fill every slot. The seven-day delay is part of the protocol flow, so a direct message claiming it can accelerate the queue should be treated as suspicious.

Can you change validators?

Yes. Once the one-day lock has ended, undelegate the amount from the first validator and delegate it to another from your staking balance. Review the new validator before signing. A new delegation begins its own lock, so changing validators should be a planned risk decision rather than a reaction to an unverified social-media post.

Does staking HYPE reduce Hyperliquid trading fees?

Yes. Hyperliquid currently applies a trading-fee discount based on the HYPE staked by the trading address. This is separate from the HYPE reward earned by delegating. If the same address stakes and trades, the official fee documentation says no extra linking action is needed.

Current HYPE staking fee-discount tiers — verify before trading
TierHYPE stakedTrading-fee discount
WoodMore than 10 HYPE5%
BronzeMore than 100 HYPE10%
SilverMore than 1,000 HYPE15%
GoldMore than 10,000 HYPE20%
PlatinumMore than 100,000 HYPE30%
DiamondMore than 500,000 HYPE40%

A referral discount and a staking discount are different programmes. An eligible referral code can reduce fees for the account's first 25 million dollars of trading volume, while staking tiers depend on delegated HYPE. Check the live fee page for how every discount applies to your account; do not assume two percentage figures can simply be added together.

What are the main risks of staking HYPE?

  • HYPE price risk — earning more HYPE does not protect the dollar value of your position if the token price falls.
  • Liquidity risk — the one-day delegation lock and seven-day staking withdrawal can prevent a quick sale or transfer.
  • Validator risk — a jailed or poorly operated validator can stop earning rewards for its delegators.
  • Commission risk — the validator's commission reduces the reward you receive and should be checked before delegating.
  • Protocol risk — staking rules, reward parameters, fee tiers and software can change or fail.
  • Account risk — phishing, malicious approvals and lost signing access can still compromise the address that controls the stake.
  • Concentration risk — delegating only to the largest operators can concentrate influence and create shared operating risk.

Who is HYPE staking suitable for?

Staking may suit a HYPE holder who already understands the token's price risk, can leave the funds unavailable during the withdrawal queue and is willing to monitor a validator. The fee discount can also matter to an active trader, but only after comparing the HYPE exposure and opportunity cost with the actual fees likely to be saved.

It may not suit someone who needs immediate liquidity, is buying HYPE only for a quoted APY, or does not want validator and wallet-management duties. A reward rate is not a reason to ignore the underlying asset risk.

What is the safest way to approach HYPE staking?

Use the official app, begin with an amount you can leave locked, verify the validator and commission, and keep enough HYPE liquid for your plans. Treat the displayed reward as variable, record the seven-day exit time, and review the live official documentation whenever staking or fee terms change.

Frequently asked questions

How do I stake HYPE on Hyperliquid?

Move HYPE from your HyperCore spot balance to your staking balance, select a validator, enter an amount and delegate. If your HYPE is on HyperEVM, transfer it to HyperCore first.

Is there a minimum amount of HYPE needed to stake?

The official staking documentation does not state a general delegator minimum. Check the live app for any transaction-level requirement before moving funds. The 10,000 HYPE requirement applies to a validator's self-delegation, not to ordinary delegators.

How long is HYPE locked after staking?

A new delegation is locked for one day. After that, you can undelegate it to the staking balance. Moving it from the staking balance to the spot balance then takes seven days.

What is the current HYPE staking APY?

There is no fixed APY. The reward rate changes with total HYPE staked and is reduced by validator commission and missed reward periods. The official 2.37% example assumes 400 million HYPE staked and is not a live guarantee.

Do HYPE staking rewards compound automatically?

Yes. Official documentation says rewards accrue every minute, are distributed daily and are automatically redelegated, which compounds the HYPE balance.

Can I stake HYPE with more than one validator?

Yes. Hyperliquid allows an address to delegate to any number of validators. Splitting stake can reduce reliance on one operator, although every validator still needs to be reviewed.

Can HYPE be slashed?

The current official documentation says there is no automatic slashing. Validators can be jailed, and a jailed validator does not earn rewards for delegators. Rules can change, so verify this before staking.

Does staking HYPE lower trading fees?

Yes. The current fee schedule offers staking-based discounts beginning above 10 HYPE, with higher tiers for larger delegated balances. Verify the live thresholds because programme terms can change.

Why can I not see my HYPE on the staking page?

It may still be on HyperEVM or in the HyperCore spot balance. Staking requires HYPE in the staking balance, so move it to HyperCore if necessary and then transfer it from Spot Balance to Staking Balance.

How many staking withdrawals can I have pending?

Hyperliquid currently allows a maximum of five pending staking withdrawals per address. Wait for one to complete before starting another if all five slots are used.
